Gordon Irvine Next week we are lucky enough to have Gordon Irvine visiting us here at Yelverton, so please come along to have all your questions answered below are the details: A great opportunity to hear Gordon’s course assessment and put questions to him and our head greenkeeper – Kristian Summerfield. Gordon Irvine is coming to Yelverton to undertake a Course Review during the day of 26th April. He has kindly agreed to stay on and give a presentation to members and then take questions. The session will be chaired by the David Parlby (Chair of Green Committee) and he will be joined by Kristian Summerfield. The session should be finished by 8pm. Many members have views about the course and the way it is being maintained. This is an ideal opportunity for members to get much better informed about green keeping by “hearing it from the horse’s mouth”. Do not miss this chance to learn more about the reasons why things are being done the way they are, how we can overcome many of the challenges we are currently facing as well as getting answers to many questions. Please support this initiative and encourage your golfing partners to attend for what should be an extremely interesting and enlightening evening. Gordon Irivine is one of less than 70 international Master Greenkeepers as rated by the British and International Golf Green Keepers Association (BIGGA). He is an acknowledge expert on Golf Course Management and sustainability. He works closely with the R&A providing them with agronomic support for their Sward Improvement Programme and has helped numerous other Clubs to improve their policies and practices. Captains news Taster day was a success, with 7 men and 4 ladies turning up on the Sunday. Some of them have already joined, our feedback from them was very positive. I would like to say thank you to the lady vice Captain Sue Gullick and my vice captain Bryan Gullick and Lauren, Adam and Anne Hoskins, also the catering staff. Thank you very much. Lady Captain v Men’s Captain day was a huge success with 12 ladies playing against 12 men. It was a close call with the men winning by 5 points. We had a meal afterwards and a lot of funny banter. Huge success we will have to do it more often. Thank you to the catering staff and everyone that played. Next week’s format (Thursday 26th April) is a three man team with two scores to count! Tim the chief will also do a nice value for money meal. |
