Adam's news Today I will be competing at Chipping Sodbury in a qualifying event for the English PGA Championship to be held later in the year at Saunton. To follow my progress, please click here. This Saturday will be my first Professionals Day as head professional of Yelverton Golf Club! This will be a very meaningful day in more ways than one! I have decided that I will introduce a trophy for this event, to be played for from this year forward. This tournament will be played in memory of Barry Nicholson who passed away in his battle with cancer late last year. Barry was a long standing Member of Yelverton and also a fantastic guy, he could often be heard in the clubhouse creating roars of laughter throughout his large group of friends.
Barry is the reason I came to Yelverton as he introduced me to Tim and Belinda, I would’ve liked nothing more than for him to see me take up the position of head pro. It would’ve also given me great pleasure in taking his money on the first tee as he shanked one into the road! I have invited his son Andy to come along as my partner for the day and hopefully we can celebrate his life and all the smiles he has brought to the club over the years. I will be carrying on with Tim’s double your money tradition on the first tee for anyone hitting the green! However, I will be out watering the fringe first thing in the morning praying for some plugged balls!
