Competition news

Midweek Stableford

Last week’s Midweek Stableford saw Phil Pond scoop victory with 39 points. In second place was Tom Stacey with 35 points and Barry Searle took third place with 35 points on countback.

Eveline West Trophy

On Thursday 25th October the ladies played their Medal alongside the Eveline West Trophy.
In first place was Ann Pritchard with gross 108 nett 74. In second place was Mair Preston-Jones with gross 93 nett 78 and Gina Mason took third place with gross 108 nett 78.

Club news

Dartmoor Preservation team

You may have noticed our Secretary Colin Nolin out with the Dartmoor Preservation team last Friday out on the course. They were out on the 9th clearing a very important leat. Designed by no less than Sir Francis Drake to carry water from Darmoor to Plymouth. This is a feature that in recent years has been covered with overgrown brambles, and gorse but thanks to the team, it has been cleared back as will many other features in the coming months around the course. I look forward to seeing more features being uncovered.

Massive congratulations to Yelverton member Lee Murphy for completing a bike ride of a lifetime!
Lee and seven other riders from 1AGRM took part in a charity bike ride setting off from Roscoff on Wednesday 26th September with the aim of riding to the most southerly point of Spain (Tarifa) with a total mileage of just over 1400 miles.

12 days the lad successfully completed the ride! They raised a total of £2000 for the The Royal Navy Royal Marines Charity.

Junior news

Well done Greg...

Congratulations to our junior Greg Frost who won our September award for most improved Golfer.
I decided to award this to Greg for his fantastic positivity and ‘give it a go’ attitude.

These monthly awards are an extra incentive for the juniors. Each month an award will be given to the junior that I feel has stood out the most, not just for their golf but for their overall attitude to the game.

The award will be posted on our website each month under ‘The Junior Section’.

I enjoyed a fantastic time in France last week with ‘Team Yelverton’. Myself, Tim Shobrook, Ed Coombes, and Jamie Shobrook finished third overall in the team event and I also finished third in the individual Pro event. Great fun had by all. Heading to Churston Golf Club with our own Matt Cooper today to play in The Devon Alliance. Wish us luck!

Lauren's corner

I had a fantastic round of golf last week with the lovely Christine Perkins. It was so nice to finally get a chance to have a game with Christine.

The weather was kind to us, thank goodness, but unfortunately my game wasn’t up to recent weeks shooting gross 90 nett 80. Ah well always next time!

Congratulations to Gilly Jarvis who on Wednesday got a hole-in-one on the 6th - you go girl!

What do you take from this?

As golfers, there's nothing more satisfying than a shot which is perfectly executed - even if it is a rare occurrence for many of us. It could be a booming drive which splits the fairway down the middle, or maybe a wedge shot which stops dead, two feet away from the hole. In fact, when you consider how often we use our wedges during a round of golf - see the graph below - the latter is something that we should all be striving to achieve.
