Who's been winning what? Liz Westacott took first place in last Thursdays Ladies Medal with nett 75. Kate Wright took second place with nett 76, and Yelverton Pro Shop’s finest Lauren Chapman took third spot with a nett 79. On Tuesday, we had a great turn out for this week’s Midweek Stableford. Jason Goodman took first place with 38 points. Second place was Robert Brimming with 38 points, and Kev Blaber took the third spot with 37 points. Congratulations to The Yelverton Vets who competed in the third event of four of the DMVGA Winter Series that took place at Yelverton yesterday. The Yelverton Team of Ken Grant, Alan Malton and David Jeremiah returned a fantastic score of 85. This was the best score of the day and also took Yelverton to the top of the rankings after three events. Superb!

Adam’s corner I had a fun but frustrating week at the Cornish Festival last week. Even though the company was fantastic, the golf left a little to be desired. A bad first round at St Enodoc saw me play catch up at Trevose and The Point at Polzeth, two courses which you do not want to be chasing your tail especially in the wind and rain. I don’t have any events for a few weeks not so back to the drawing board, range here I come! |
Lauren's corner I had a lovely game of golf on Thursday, when Sue Pearman and I competed in last week’s Ladies Medal. Rosamund Kikidas also joined us at the back of the field to make a three-ball. The black clouds in the distance threatened to soak us, but we were lucky enough that the wind blew them on past us. So, it turned out to be a lovely afternoon. I seem to have the nine-hole fever at the moment. I play the first-nine great and then the back-nine the wheels come off. I’m not playing until next Thursday now, so I’m going to get to the range and work on my game. |
Matt's corner Last week the Alliance took us to Teignmouth for the annual team event; Me, Sean Carter, Paul Hendy, and Billy Hammett sadly lost to the other Yelvy boys! This Tuesday I played in the first Assistant Sprint at Minehead Golf Club, a windy day was ahead, after a poor start, I managed to battle through a half tidy +5 over a massive thank you to Steve Seward for caddying and helping me stay focused! This week we head to Downes Crediton for the Alliance, hopefully we can have a few Yelvy boys in the prizes for the last event of the year!

Local rules 2019 Abnormal Ground Conditions - Electrified fences surrounding greens are Immovable Obstructions. Rule 16.1b applies. If a ball strikes the fence of the green being played, the stroke MAY be replayed. Note: Post and rope are used as a barrier to direct traffic towards pathways, limiting damage to in-play areas from Trolley and Buggy usage. These are Movable Obstructions and can be moved to play a shot and must be replaced afterwards - Rule 15.2a(1) applies. If a ball strikes one of these posts or the rope, the ball must be played as it lies. This same rule applies to the new Blue stakes that you will now see on the course to define the forward tees. These stakes are necessary to speed up play and highlight where the tees are located, this is our bid to grow the game of golf here at Yelverton and save our great game!

A driver is a powerful beast, sometimes too powerful if a hole has a hazard within range. In this scenario, you have a plethero of options to choose from, but there is one that is often overlooked. |
Picture the scene You're stood on a par-4 tee box and there’s a water hazard 240 yards away. What do you do? Many of you will reach for your longest iron on auto-pilot, however a custom-fitted fairway wood might just be the perfect solution; getting you further down the hole and closer to the green. | |
|
Why is this often overlooked? A lot of golfers don't have confidence in hitting their fairway wood because, quite simply, they don't use it enough. But with technology to help you hit them better - such as a Tungsten weight in PING's G410 fairway wood that increases forgiveness - it's time you gave them another go. |
Custom fitting is key We're delighted to see so many of you come to us for a custom fit when you're after a new driver or set of irons, but why does it stop there? A custom fitting is so important in ensuring you get the most from any new purchase, whether that's a driver, fairway wood or putter. |
