Who’s been winning what? Congratulations to Terasa Holt and Anne Ashley who won their Daily Mail Foursomes match against two ladies from St Austell. Despite Anne Ashley’s work vehicle breaking down with less than an hour to go before tee off, our Yelverton girls went on to win their match which came down to the 18th. You go girls! A great weekend had by all for the Yelverton Mixed Greensomes Open on Sunday where mixed couples from far and wide came to play in our Annual Open. The weather was kind to us, just a little breeze but nothing too concerning. Tavistock’s Nikki and George Gawman took first spot with 42 points. In second place was Yelverton’s Andy and Jo Jenkins with 41 points, and in third place was Stover’s Jan and Neil Hayman with 39 points on countback. On Tuesday, Tony Richardson took first place in this week’s Midweek Stableford with 36 points. In second place was Niven Penprase with 35 points. Stephen Allum took third place on countback with 35 points. Well done peeps, good scores in testing windy conditions.

New in this week! Yes they have finally arrived! The new Yelverton scorecard holders are now in and in an array of colours also! So, there should be something for everyone.

Have you paid? Please could everybody who put a pledge on the first tee at Pros Day square up their debt as soon as possible, as this is holding up crediting everyone’s accounts! Once debts are cleared, we can start the process of putting money onto everybody’s accounts. This includes the people who paid on the tee on the day, this will go on all at once when Lauren’s naughty list is cleared.

The PGA Championship This week is The PGA Championship as I’m sure of many of you are aware! Unfortunately, we only managed to half fill the sweepstake sheet, so all names that were on the sheet will be transferred to The U.S. Open sweepstake instead. These people will still retain the same squares they selected on The PGA Championship sheet, so you still get your favourite numbers!

Junior coaching Unfortunately, we had to take a break from Junior Coaching last weekend as I had to take a Junior Devon Coaching session but I am pleased to say we are back this Saturday at 10am-11am or 11am-12pm for Junior Coaching. This Sunday at 3pm, our Juniors continue their Golf Access programme on the Short Course. Many of our Junior have now progressed onto the main course in the final stage of their Golf Access with CONGU handicap only around the corner!

Adam's corner No golf for me this week! I’m still mentally recovering from last week’s competitions where I was faced by 40mph winds at both Burhnam and The Oxfordshire. Safe to say I didn’t have the shots in my locker to battle with those two beasts of golf courses! Back to the drawing board, and hopefully I can get a round of golf in with sensible conditions in the not too distant future! Next week I will be at Ferndown for a fun Pro-Am where it is the pro with the most birdies wins! No total score is taken into account just the birdie tally! Lots of fun!

Lauren’s corner On Sunday, we were one pair short to make up a group, so myself and Sean Carter volunteered to step in. It was great to finally get the chance to play with Sean. He hits the ball an absolute mile and played nicely. Unfortunately, I was the missing link that day, my game was not good. I literally had no idea what my arms were doing resulting in us ending up with 33 points…sorry Sean! I managed to get in a little practice last night after closing the shop as I’m heading out with Sue Pearman today and Lady Captain, Sue Gullick, which I am really looking forward to. Sue Gullick and I have attempted a round of golf a couple of times now and between fog and frost, it just has never happened so I can wait!

Matt’s corner
With the lovely weather we have had this week, I have taken the opportunity to be out practicing. This have given me a chance to work on a couple things for the upcoming season. I am looking forward to playing at Bovey castle on Monday in the Devon PGA matchplay. My first round is against Tom Jessamine. Tom is from Exeter Golf and Country Club and a very good player, so I am looking forward to testing myself against a good player from the region! Just a reminder that I still have some spaces available for my lesson packages, so please feel free to contact me and get booked in.

This week’s rules There has been a lot of talk about the new World Handicap System which will come in to effect in 2020 (but not on 1st of January). It is designed to make golf easier to understand and to give all golfers a handicap which is portable all around the globe. Key elements:
• Player’s Handicap becomes Handicap Index, which will be an average of best 8 from last 20 scores. • Competitive and ‘recreational’ scores (currently Supplementary Scores) to count for handicap. • Recreational scores - as now, players must register before they play. As now, Players will have a choice, it will not be compulsory to take part in recreational scores. • Abnormal Course and weather conditions adjustment (similar to Competition Scratch Score). • Slope will be used - more on this next week.

What would you say if we could show you a way of achieving greater accuracy and longer distance from the tee? You would say yes, right? Well, here’s your answer… |
| Have you been custom fitted?
|
|
First things first, the easiest way to achieve the holy grail of long, straight drives is to find the middle of the clubface every time, which is easier said than done for most of us. Following that, it’s all about launching your drives high with a good spin rate. Simple, right? It doesn’t matter how fast or smoothly you swing, if the clubhead and shaft are a bad match for the way you play, your chances of sending a perfect drive into the air will be seriously hampered. |
| Titleist TS drivers
|
So, the very first thing we need to do is get you fitted correctly. During the process, we will chat about your game, watch you hit some balls, and assess what you have told us in order to find the right shaft/head combination for your game. Two clubs that we will definitely try are Titleist's TS2 and TS3 drivers. Both have Titleist's Speed Chassis for incredible speed increases, with the TS2 offering maximum forgiveness from a high launch and the TS3 providing shot-shape correction. So, rather than going for the easy online purchase, come down to the club for an enjoyable custom fit session with a member of the team. |
