Pace of play Following on from last week’s article about Pace of Play. Prompt Pace of Play - Rule 5.6b Slow play is often cited as a reason for not enjoying a round of golf, despite the sport’s many health and social benefits. A round of golf is meant to be played at a prompt pace - Ready Golf. Players should prepare in advance for the next stroke and be ready to play, for example, on the tee - glove on, ball, tee and club in hand, followed by a brisk pre-shot routine. It is recommended that the player make the stroke in no more than 40 seconds, and should usually be able to play more quickly than that. The time is taken to determine distance and select a club counts as the time taken for the stroke.
