Kevin Blaber continued his run of form yesterday, winning this week’s Midweek Stableford with 39 points. A close 2nd was Dennis Birrell with 38 points and in 3rd place ocb was Ben Graves with 38 points.

What's he been hiding...

Martin Blampy has been hiding something from us folks!

Whilst I was working away in the repair shed the other day I caught a glimpse of Martin trying to smuggle a Green Jacket into the clubhouse!

I’ve often thought Martins golf was worthy of such a jacket and here is Martin proudly displaying it minus the chest badge.

Over time, the lie angle that your club is set at can be altered with wear so book in a loft and lie check to insure everything is as it should be.

Adam's corner

I’m looking forward to a close friend of mine visiting from London today. His name is David Griffiths and we have known each other for many years now.

We first met in the Under 16s England Boys Team when he had the bad luck of be drawn with me as his foursomes partner, from then we went through the England boys set up through to England Mens team, both turning Professional at the same time David went on to play on the European Tour for a number of years and most recently has taken on the role at Head PGA Professional at West Herts Golf Club.

He will be helping out in the Pro Shop today and tomorrow so pop in and say hello, maybe you can pick his brains from stories from the European tour or maybe give him a bit of advice in his new role. Hopefully if the weather is kind we might even get a game of golf in on Friday!

Lauren’s corner

I am really looking forward to playing in today’s Medal and Eveline West Trophy with Rosamund Kikidas. I haven’t played for weeks so I hope I don’t show myself up especially in front of the super steady Rosamund. Weather is looking pretty good too so fingers crossed for a decent round of golf, waterproof at the ready just incase!

Matt is away on holiday this week but I’m sure he will have some exciting gossip from his trip away for you next week! I have seen on social media he’s been sampling some of the finest beer Spain has to offer!

Winter rules

Last week’s article was about Preferred Lies and this week it’s about Temporary Greens.

When Temporary Greens are in use, the normal putting green of the hole is a wrong green and relief MUST be taken.

When temporary greens are not in use they are also to be treated as wrong greens and relief MUST be taken.

Rule 13.1f(2) - Relief must be taken from Wrong Green - applies.

Penalty for breach of Winter Rule - the player gets the General Penalty under rule 14.7a - Playing from Wrong Place. Match Play: Loss of hole. Stroke Play: 2 strokes penalty.

The round white thing...

Since the game began in the 15th century, there is one thing that has never changed – the ball being the only piece of equipment used on every shot. Despite this, it still gets a raw deal with some golfers viewing it as less important than the clubs used to hit it. So, we decided to take a look back and see how modern golf balls compare to those of yesteryear.

In the beginning

Feathery balls reigned supreme for over 200 years in the early days of golf, but even they are relatively new compared to the original hairy balls (guess what they were stuffed with!).

It's hard to imagine what it would be like playing with those balls these days, and even the later-developed Gutty and Haskell balls left golfers with little-to-no room for error.

Where we are today

The ability to make a ball that was both incredibly soft and goes for miles was simply not possible 100 years ago. However, that's exactly what Srixon has done in the new AD333 thanks to FastLayer technology - you can learn more via the link below.
