Actions affecting the stroke that are not allowed - Rule 8.1a Pantomime season kicked off at the Hero World Challenge with Patrick Reed playing the villain role to perfection. After twice brushing back the sand during practice swings in a sanded waste area, he was deemed to have improved conditions affecting the stroke and flouting Rule 8.1a – and he was penalised 2 strokes for it. Reed ended the Bahamas tournament on 16-under-par, two-shots behind winner Henrik Stenson – ouch. It could have been worse as he could have been disqualified for ‘serious misconduct’ under Rule 1.2a if his actions had been considered to be deliberate.
