We have been keeping busy here is the shop with lots of things to be getting on with but It is just a shame that we can’t get out and play the golf we want to play.

I was really looking forward to playing with Christine Perkins this week in the Astor Cup but quite rightly it has been rescheduled.

Let’s hope we can have a few dry days so we can get the chance to play the Ladies Stableford next Thursday.

With things being a little quieter than usual in my golfing and coaching schedule, I have taken the opportunity to head to the range to work on a few things.

I was pleased with my last performance but want to keep my foot on the gas for my next tournament at Exeter Golf Club mid-March.

Play it as it lies...

Despite playing great golf and winning the WGC-Mexico Championship at the weekend, the controversy over Patrick Reed improving his lie (twice) in a recent tournament will not go away with world number two Brooks Koepka wading in with his opinion.

Rule 1 introduces these central principles of the game for the player:

Play the course as you find it and play the ball as it lies.
Play by the Rules and in the spirit of the game.
You are responsible for applying your own penalties if you breach a Rule, so that you cannot gain any potential advantage over your opponent in match play or other players in stroke play.

The art of putting

‘Drive for show, putt for dough’. No doubt you have heard this one a few times before but considering putting equates to between 30 to 50% of our shots on the course, it also has a large element of truth in it.

The whole puzzle

If you're considering buying new irons this year, have a think about how they are going to blend into the rest of your set. The idea is to have equal yardage gaps between each club in your bag so, if you are going to treat yourself, it might be worth replacing a long iron with a hybrid that is easier to hit.

Take danger out of play

The illustration here is a good example of where a hybrid comes in handy. When our driver brings danger into play and a long-iron leaves us too far to the green, a hybrid is the perfect option.
